McConchie Family

The McConchie family moved to Whitlam in 2022, attracted by its central location. They designed a custom home to fit their needs and have enjoyed becoming part of a welcoming neighbourhood where their children can enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

How long have you lived in Whitlam for?

Nearly a year now. We moved in June last year, I think.

Why Whitlam?

We love the idea that it was a new suburb, but then also the proximity. It’s so central out of all the new suburbs that are popping up. Yeah, we preferred it here rather than out in Gungahlin, which is sort of further away from the city.

And the mountains. Around here we get the beautiful sunsets. Being on the western edge of the city. We can see the balloons from our house. Canberra Day is the best.

How are you finding the community?

We actually love it here. It’s got a really good community vibe. We’ve got a great street. We’ve got a group chat with our street and across the road they’ve started a basketball competition. Yeah, it’s great.

What was the building process like?

It was a long process. We did go with the custom-builder and we found a house plan that we liked and customised it. We loved it. It was a long process, but worth it.

What are you looking forward to being developed in Whitlam?

We’re looking forward to the new primary school being built. And if it aligns with, if timing is right, then we plan to enrol our kids in there.

What are three words that describe Whitlam for you?

Our forever home.
