Engagement and collaboration
The Plan is broken up into three areas. This fosters transparent governance and easier management of our various programs when designing thriving communities.
Relationships
We’re committed to building meaningful engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to inform and improve decision-making processes, customer service, and program focus. We aim to foster collaboration, trust, and cultural understanding with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within their organization and the community. We support and enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals to uphold their cultural rights, practices, and connection to land.
Respect
Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) focuses on mutual understanding and respect. Respect is a core value and we will honour the diversity of ideas, backgrounds and culture of our people and our communities. We are committed to sharing knowledge and engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to understand history, culture and customs, and to weave a culture of respect into our work practices and programmes. We will commit ourselves to inclusion and respect as we perform our roles as a public service to the ACT community.
Opportunities
We will actively seek out and initiate programmes that provide opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to continue engaging in cultural practices and managing Country. We will provide targeted employment and inclusion programmes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait people and will focus on ensuring our leaders have appropriate training to engage and provide ongoing support through promoting Indigenous engagement networks and providing a culturally safe work environment.
Culturally responsive communities
Our community development program, Mingle, plays an important role in exploring ways to recognise and celebrate the rich indigenous heritage of the land we develop. We aim to grow and maintain effective relationships that recognise and build on the unique strengths and challenges of diverse populations.
Community consultations
Our Built Form team run a range of programs as our in-house development team. From designing and executing innovative practices to leading core actions as part of the Reconciliation Action Plan, they play a core role in bringing together diverse voices when designing new communities and land management practices.
