Feels like home

Whitlam is a growing neighbourhood, with approximately 2,100 homes offering residents a chance to enjoy easy access to the city centre while being on the doorstep to stunning natural surroundings.

As part of the four-stage release, there are block sizes for all sorts of homes and budgets and the whole suburb has been designed to maximise passive solar and minimise energy consumption.

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

Mingle, our community engagement program

Whitlam Mingle

Our incredible Mingle team have been working hard in Whitlam to build connections and leaders across the community.

Whitlam Mingle began in May 2021 and will be active in the community for approximately five years. In that time, community members are supported by Mingle to identify and work together on matters which are important to them. As someone who lives in Whitlam you can contribute, shape and drive ideas. This includes projects and initiatives to build a strong, sustainable and connected neighbourhood.

Mingle will help community members with identified ideas and work with them to:

  • Create a safe place through information sessions and a local neighbourhood watch group
  • Create fun places for kids through playgroups and activities for teens
  • Create a sustainable community with environmental groups and communal gardens
  • Create an active community with dog walks and local walking and cycling groups.

Noticeboard

As part of our work in creating a Mingle community, we set a noticeboard for residents. It is used to display information about events and other things happening in the suburb.

If people from the community have public message they want posted, they just need to contact our friendly team at [email protected]. They may even be able to help with printing. Just be aware that business or personal advertisements can't be displayed.

Eventually the noticeboard will belongs to the community. It will be available for all residents to use, for promotion of local activities, events, notices and small businesses.

Visit us at the Mingle Community Space

  • Suburban Land Agency Display Village, 3 Klaus Moje Street, Whitlam.
  • Open hours are Wednesday to Friday, 9:30am – 2:30pm.

Sustainable design throughout

Suburban Land Agency is dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting biodiversity across all of our suburbs. We’re working with the natural topography of Whitlam and putting a number of conditions in place to protect the native flora and fauna from any negative impact of urban development. These include making Whitlam a cat-containment area, prohibiting dogs from entering the nature parks and creating a buffer between the development and the Kama Nature Reserve.

During the construction of Whitlam, we’ve been strategically planting lots of additional trees and keeping existing ones wherever possible. Mature trees that have had to be removed will be used as habitat structures in the Namarag Nature Reserve, which is located directly to the south of Whitlam.

Along with ongoing measures to protect waterways in the area , air quality is a priority in Whitlam. As stated on the  Whitlam Housing Development Guide, all residents within Whitlam are required to comply with the Solid Fuel Heating restriction in the Memorandum of Provisions incorporated into the Crown Lease. Buyers need to seek written approval of the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate before installing or using a solid fuel heating system on the premises. New stages of Whitlam are also gas-free, while residents are encouraged to build sustainably with our energy rebates.

Find out  why sustainability is so important to us at the Suburban Land Agency.

We acknowledge the Ngunnawal people as traditional custodians of the ACT and recognise any other people or families with connection to the lands of the ACT and region. We acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.
