Haider Family
The Haider family moved to Whitlam, after being drawn by the suburb’s natural beauty and central location. They have quickly settled in and are enjoying the vibrant community, diverse activities and the welcoming environment Whitlam offers.
How long have you lived in Whitlam?
We’ve been living in Whitlam for about two months. It’s been an amazing journey so far living here. There’s still a lot happening, settling in, furnishes are still coming. There’s always a knock on the delivery door for deliveries or something. It’s a great feeling, really great feeling.
What is the Whitlam community like?
I love the community, especially now that I’m at home on maternity leave. There are lots of things going on which I’m enjoying, like the Mingle playgroup, there’s laughing club, yoga for mums, and my kids love it too. They made friends, like an instant, right? They’re always in and out. It’s really good. I love it.
What makes a great community is having diversity around yourself. Especially in Canberra, we talk about being cosmopolitan, coming from different aspects of the world, and living in Whitlam, you have this diversity of people.
So you get out and about a lot?
The nature, the parks, especially the Blue Poles Park, is one of the beautiful parks that we have here. The tracks. I don’t need to go to the mountains, we have a really nice hill and the trails. We love taking our kids out for a walk.
What makes Whitlam special?
We've lived in Gungahlin for 10 years and loved it. But since moving to Whitlam, we discovered the true meaning of Canberra—its nature. Looking around, we thought, "Oh my God, this is what Canberra is all about: the mountains." We never used to see the mountains before.
I just feel very connected, very lucky to live here. When I first moved, I missed my old place, because we’d been there for nine years. But day by day, I feel really happy. I’m so happy.
What was it like buying through the Suburban Land Agency?
The SLA were very professional, amazing people, full of energy, and especially for us because it was our first time as a buyer. They guided us through each and every stage, especially with all the administration. Any questions that used to come into my mind, they were very happy to respond. The experience was phenomenal for us.
What are three words that describe Whitlam for you?
