The Foley Family
The Foley family moved to Whitlam in 2023, after a journey that started before COVID-19. Since settling in, they have enjoyed the welcoming community and spacious environment, finding it a perfect place to raise their young family.
How long have you been living in Whitlam?
We’ve been living in Whitlam now for about two weeks. It’s been a long journey. But we’re in it and we’re loving it.
What made you want to move to Whitlam?
We wanted access to green spaces. Our previous suburb was McGregor and we would drive down William Hovel Drive and the hills would be all green – especially around spring time, after all the rain. It just has such a good vibe, and it’s a really good environment.
The environment was important to you?
Having two young daughters, one of our considerations is making sure that they have an environment where they can feel comfortable and healthy, and grow into the two beautiful people they’ll become.
Was Whitlam’s location part of the decision?
We chose Whitlam because of the location and the land price was pretty good, and we got a good block size. Natalie works in Civic, and I work in Belconnen, so it’s a very good location for that. The girls go to school close by. It all really works quite well for us. The other thing that we really like about Whitlam is the open spaces. It’s got a really good feel.
You met some of your neighbours well before you even moved in?
Yes, a lot of our neighbours went through the same process as us. So, we had the opportunity to watch each other’s houses grow and talk through how we’re each envisaging the neighbourhood to grow. Luckily for us, our neighbours are in a similar stage of their life journey.
What was the purchasing and building process like?
When we were looking, we went around to the different display villages. We also looked at the established suburbs. I think one of the things that became very apparent was the trade offs between new and established. I think if we had gone with an established suburb, we would probably need to make some renovations and other things.
I think for us, what really sold it to us is that we formed a very good relationship with the builder. We told them what size block we were looking at. They gave us a call and said, we’ve probably found the perfect block for you.
You’ve only been here for two weeks, but have you participated in any of the community events?
We met some other families at the park because the parks opened. But we haven’t done anything yet, but we’re planning to.
What are three words that describe Whitlam for you?
Family, friendly and central.
