The Baxter Family
The Baxter family made the move To Whitlam in 2023, seeking a more spacious and centrally located community. Since settling in, they have enjoyed the open spaces and the friendly atmosphere that Whitlam offers, making it their perfect new home.
What’s something you love about living in Whitlam?
We like the open space of Whitlam. We have a particularly nice view, actually, from our master bedroom I love the hills.
And your kids? What do they love about it here?
They love The playgrounds here and the bigger one over on the other side, we take walks from our place to the playgrounds and they love it. The kids really love Whitlam.
What was it like building your own home in Whitlam?
The size of the blocks really lend themselves to big family homes. It just gives you that opportunity to build and design and build a house of your own inspiration, really. This way we were able to design and get exactly what we wanted.
Also, the house has all these really nice energy efficiency features, so that does save a lot on my bills.
What sorts of activities are there to do in Whitlam?
We often go to the open days and things that they hold down at the Mingle Centre. Sometimes they’ll even have free pony rides and things going on, free ice cream. We take the kids to the park sometimes as well, but the open days are really fun.
There’s already a lot of amenities in Whitlam. Is there anything else it needs?
The amenities are, from our experience, they’re very good. They’re well maintained. We haven’t tried the barbecues yet over in the other playground, but something we want to do, perhaps when the weather gets a bit warmer.
We’re waiting for shops to go in here, but we’re quite close to Macquarie shops here – only about seven minutes away, usually.
Whitlam is very central, isn’t it?
It’s really close to everything. We feel like we’re closer to Belconnen, but not that far again from Woden. We used to live in Coombs, so it feels like we’re just up the road, but we’re a lot more central. We’re quite close to everything. It feels like we’re 10, 15 minutes away from everything, which is good. The city is only a little bit further than that, maybe 13 minutes from where we are. It’s really close.
What are three words that describe Whitlam for you?
Let’s say location. Location. Location.
