Whitlam Local Centre development opportunity - Create a place to meet and connect for the residents of Whitlam

Stage one Whitlam Local Centre Tender submissions closed at 2pm Thursday 18 August 2022.

The Whitlam Local Centre will be a central place for the community to come together. It will provide a complementary mix of services, activities and events to support a vibrant public life. Diverse voices from the local community have contributed to developing this vision and place brief to developers.

Enjoying local experiences is important for the residents of the Whitlam community and the precinct must allow for green spaces, opportunities for play and have walkable connections.

Site details:

Site Address: Block 1, Section 69 and Block 2, Section 69 Whitlam.
Two blocks to be sold as one development opportunity for the right developer.
Size: Full site 18,000m² (approx.)
Zoning: CZ4 Local Centre.
Dwelling Yield: 200 to 300 diverse residential dwellings.
The site will include a supermarket of up to 1,500m2, and is envisaged to include a range of other uses including cafe, retail, commercial and community use.
Affordable Requirements: Approximately 15% of dwellings will need to meet the requirements of the ACT Government’s Affordable Home Purchase Scheme.
Process: Sale by two stage tender.

The local centre will provide local shopping and associated amenities for the estimated 5,500 future residents of Whitlam with a distinctive local centre precinct that embodies best practice in contemporary design.

At the SLA, we are committed to creating great places where communities thrive. We build people-focussed residential estates and urban renewal projects for the people of Canberra.

Canberra’s local centres are transitioning to activity centres that provide lifestyle services, niche shopping and enable social connection and community wellbeing, such as informal community meeting spaces.

The SLA would like to apologise for a printing error which appeared in an Allhomes advertisement on Saturday 2 July and Saturday 9 July 2022. The map within the advertisement incorrectly identified the street adjoining Section 69 in Whitlam as Daneher Street instead of Alice Moyle Way. All associated collaterals have been updated to reflect the correct street name.

If you were unable to attend or would like to learn more about this exciting opportunity, you can view the video below:

To demonstrate the vision of the local centre we have prepared a 3D fly through video:

The Place Brief

The Molonglo Valley community has been engaged in the development of a place brief to guide the strategic design and development of this site. Developers are encouraged to consider the findings of the place brief and the community’s aspirations for the local centre sites.

SLA has ambitious goals to help contribute to Canberra’s status as a world leading sustainable city – more information on our Sustainability Strategy can be found here: suburbanland.act.gov.au/sustainability.
