Designing with the Canberra climate in mind means considering the harsh summer sun. Innovative shading systems and a well-designed garden can help control the temperature of your home without the need for air conditioning.

Sunlight can generate as much heat as a single bar radiator over each square metre of a surface, effective shading can block up to 90% of this heat. Discussing home shading with your builder is a great idea to save money and the environment.

Some ways of improving your home shading are:

  • Selecting windows with appropriately designed sun shading devices
  • Installing operable shading devices

The houses in our Innovation Precinct use a Helioscreen Sun Control System.
