Dr Hanna Hoyne was invited Curator for the Whitlam Precinct Opening Exhibition OF LAND AND BELONGING that features 9 local Canberra Artists who’s work is deeply concerned with issues of the Environment, Climate Change, and our relationships to Country and Australia’s First Nation’s Histories.
Hanna Hoyne (MA 2004; PhD 2009) is a visual artist and researcher working in public space design as public sculptor, muralist and mentor. Since 1996 she has been involved in creating exhibitions, performances & installations, design, studio practice, art fabrication, art writing and pitching for projects.
She is the 2021/22 recipient of the inaugural Arts ACT Recovery & Resilience in-Government Directorate Residency, where she has been a visiting researcher with the Environment Planning & Sustainable Design Directorate and the Suburban Land Agency.
Hanna’s focus is on collaborations with landscape architects, cultural agencies and developers, aiming to inject beauty and whimsy into their work, which has such an influence on how our city spaces are shaped. Hanna is motivated by a grander vision for sustainable and imaginative living spaces for regular people that expand beyond the power of the art gallery and museum.
SLA is excited to exhibit OF LAND AND BELONGING, it’s the first time we’ve worked so closely with local artists in this way. SLA has paid each of the artists for the 12 month loan of their artworks in the OF LAND AND BELONGING exhibition. After 12 months the artworks will be returned to the artist for their own collections, or for onward sale.
We’re looking forward to continuing to work with Canberra’s art community on future exhibitions and events.
