How is the Suburban Land Agency protecting the environment?

We are dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting biodiversity across all of our suburbs.

We’re working with the natural topography of Whitlam and putting a number of conditions in place to protect the native flora and fauna from any negative impact of urban development. These include making Whitlam a cat-containment area, prohibiting dogs from entering the nature parks and creating a buffer between the development and the Kama Nature Reserve.

A smart water design will also help filter rainwater run-off before it enters the Molonglo River.

We are also committed to using environmentally sustainable practices and will actively promote the benefits of sustainable and environmentally friendly building techniques for homeowners and developers.

During the construction of the suburb we’ve been planting lots of additional trees and keeping existing ones wherever possible. The mature trees that had to be removed will be used as habitat structures in the Namarag Nature Reserve, which is located directly to the south of Whitlam.
