Buying in Whitlam

­How many blocks are in the February 2021 release?­

There will be 92 blocks. The sales pack and block list are available now - click here. 

How can I purchase a block in the February 2021 release?­

Given the high demand for land in Whitlam, the blocks will be available through the book to buy process.

The order for block selection appointments will be determined by a randomised draw. An official from the ACT Gambling and Racing Commission and Suburban Land Agency staff members will monitor the draw on the day. All registrations will undergo a duplication check prior to your block selection appointment allocation. 

What is the book to buy process?

The book to buy process allows each potential purchaser an equal opportunity to secure a block of land in Whitlam. A registration period will be open for two days to allow you to submit your details to go in to the book to buy draw.

Please note you do not need to be the first person to register to receive an appointment - all registrations will be drawn randomly.

Will the draw for block appointments be live streamed?­
The draw for book to buy appointments will be run by the Suburban Land Agency and will not be live streamed. A member of the ACT Gaming and Racing Commission will be present to witness the process.

When registering for buying, if I only register my name can I include another party in the sales contract?­

Your online registration must include all buyers that are to be included on the First Grant Contract.

­Can we register to buy both as a builder and as an individual?

No, you may only register once as either an individual OR a builder. A duplicate check of online registrations will be conducted.

Will builders be allowed to purchase blocks?­

Yes, builders are eligible to register for ONE book to buy appointment. We will be running duplicate checks before the selection of appointments.

How will I know if I have been successful in securing a book to buy appointment?

After the draw is complete, you will receive an email with your book to buy appointment details.

Do we select a block online during our book to buy sales appointment?

A live block list link will be sent to you prior to your appointment via email. This will allow you to keep track of available blocks. We encourage you to shortlist up to five blocks, as we cannot guarantee your preferred block(s) will be available at the time of your appointment.

Building In Whitlam

Where do we find topography maps of the stage to be released? I would like to know the level of land before the sales appointments.

Are there any "element" requirements on the builds. For example: Forde required wood, stone and colours for all builds­?

All development will be built in accordance with the Territory Plan, the same as all other development in the ACT. Whitlam has some specific building requirements on particular blocks which are listed in the Whitlam Housing Development Guide, these are mostly in relation to fencing, cut and fill and noise. There are no particular requirements on the exterior colours or materials on your home. However for more information, see the Whitlam Housing Development Guide online - Click here.

­When will stage 3 open?­

Stage 3 Whitlam blocks are expected to be released from mid-2021 according to the ACT Government Indicative Land Release Program. Construction has not yet commenced on Stage 3.

When can we enter Whitlam to see the blocks ?­

Parts of Whitlam are now open to the public.

Some of  the Whitlam estate is still under construction, please follow the signage throughout the suburb and do not enter through closed construction gates.

The expected settlement date ranges will be available in the new block list shortly.

­Is there a time frame required for building completion after exchange?­

The Memorandum Of Provisions as part of your sales contract states that you will be required to complete your construction within twenty four (24) months from the commencement date of the crown lease (ie from the date you settle on your land).

Plans for a display village are underway. Expected opening in spring 2021.

Living in Whitlam

When will Whitlam be ready?

Early stages of construction are underway including work on roads and supporting infrastructure.

Whitlam is set to be released in four stages over the next four years:

  • Stage 1 = from early 2020
  • Stage 2 = from late 2020 – early 2021 (incl. large central neighbourhood park)
  • Stage 3 = 2022 (incl. land for a future Government school and local centre)
  • Stage 4 = 2023

The first residents are expected to move into Whitlam in 2021.

Is Whitlam a cat containment suburb?

Yes, Whitlam is a cat containment suburb. This means that residents of Whitlam are required to keep their cat confined to their premises at all times. Residents can achieve this by confining their cat to their house, or providing a purpose built cat enclosure in their yard.

Are solid fuel or wood fire places permitted in Whitlam?

As stated on the Whitlam Housing Development Guide, all residents within Whitlam are required to comply with the Solid Fuel Heating restriction in the Memorandum of Provisions incorporated into the Crown Lease. Buyers are not to install or use a solid fuel heating system on the premises without the prior written approval of the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate.

How is the Suburban Land Agency protecting the environment?

We are dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting biodiversity across all of our suburbs.

We’re working with the natural topography of Whitlam and putting a number of conditions in place to protect the native flora and fauna from any negative impact of urban development. These include making Whitlam a cat-containment area, prohibiting dogs from entering the nature parks and creating a buffer between the development and the Kama Nature Reseve.

A smart water design will also help filter rainwater run-off before it enters the Molonglo River.

We are also committed to using environmentally sustainable practices and will actively promote the benefits of sustainable and environmentally friendly building techniques for homeowners and developers.

During the construction of the suburb we’ve been planting lots of additional trees and keeping existing ones wherever possible. The mature trees that had to be removed will be used as habitat structures in the Molonglo River Park Special Purpose Reserve, which will be located directly to the south of Whitlam.

What high schools and college will Whitlam have access to?­

Whitlam will include a Government Pre-school to Year 6 School. Molonglo will have its first high school in time for the 2023 school year. The high school will be an expansion of the preschool to Year 6 school currently being built in Denman Prospect (opening 2021). The future Molonglo Commercial Centre is expected to have a College, however until this is completed, it is anticipated students will attend Hawker College or UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra*

What are the closest schools?

A future primary school will be built in Whitlam, while the closest schools are Belconnen High and Hawker College.

What will the population be?

Once complete, Whitlam will be home to around 5,000 people in approximately 2,100 homes.

What public facilities will Whitlam have?

There are plans for a local centre and primary school in Whitlam. There are also several playgrounds and plenty of green spaces for everyone to enjoy.

What’s the closest hospital?

Calvary Hospital is 4kms away.
