A central place for paths to cross
Hellenic Club is the successful Tenderer for Woden Village with sale contracts exchanging in July 2024 for the significant 12,946m² Phillip block centrally located between Matilda, Bowes and Callum Streets in Woden Town Centre.
The design-based Request for Tender asked for innovative design and development proposals that respond to the Place Design Brief .
The Brief was the result of comprehensive community consultations across 2022 and 2023 and guides future developers about the area’s unique attributes and highlights key aspects of Woden’s identity. Sustainability is a key principle underpinning Hellenic Club’s precinct design and the development will include 5 star or greater Greenstar Building rating, electric vehicle charging points and active green roofs. The future development will retain the same number of current publicly available parking spaces in addition to those required by the new development. The development will create new paths to connect with existing walking and cycling networks as well as nature corridors and open green space along Matilda Street to ensure connection to the surrounding area and Woden Town Centre.
Next steps Public consultation will take place in the coming months and is an opportunity for the community to provide feedback and comment on the Tender Concept Design.
Construction on site is expected to begin in the second half of 2026 following statutory approvals.

About the site Centrally located between Matilda Street, Bowes Street and Callum Street, Woden Village presents the opportunity to revive an underutilised area and continue to support the transformation of the Woden town centre.
The 12,946m² site will be developed in response to increasing demand for entertainment, office space, residential dwellings, green space and public parking.
Beyond the residential living and commercial opportunities, the site will improve connectivity, create local partnerships and provide inclusive environments where people can live, work and visit in comfort.
Sale release Phillip Section 7 was released to market on 31 May 2023 by Tender and closed on 27 July 2023. Tenders were required to develop a concept design that responded to the Phillip Section 7 Place Design Brief for their submission.
Place Design Brief In 2022/23, the ACT Government engaged with the local community to discuss opportunities for the future development of the site. Common themes raised by the community included safety, versatility, connectivity and accessibility. In particular, access to nature within urban environments is recognised as a highly desirable outcome.
This engagement informed the Phillip Section 7 Place Design Brief. Interested developers responded directly to this brief in their tender response.
