A guiding principle for the design and development of The North Wright Sustainable Precinct was participating in a circular economy. By reusing and recycling where possible and sourcing sustainable or renewable options, the precinct demonstrates best practise and sustainable building methods and materials.

Throughout the precinct, you’ll find examples of where building materials have been reused and recycled, as well as materials chosen for their lower environmental impact or 'embodied energy' (the amount of energy used to create a product.)

Some of the sustainable materials used are:

  • Recycled bricks used for house brickwork, paved areas and fencing
  • Recycled pavers, sleepers, concrete, timber structures and landscape materials from other ACT Government and Suburban Land Agency sites and sales suites
  • Our kitchen and laundry feature Paperock benchtops and joinery units. These are made from FSC-certified paper and phenolic resin, with no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) emissions, ensuring a healthy and sustainable environment.
  • Greenstar concrete mix which is 30% recycled content has been used, along with an Australian made and fully recycled foundation pod system in each home’s slab.
  • Using a 100% natural cladding on each home
  • The flooring choices in each home, combines sustainability with aesthetics. Both the carpet and marmoleum floor include natural materials with low VOC emissions or CO2 neutral.
