Liveable Housing standards are now a requirement for every new build in Canberra. These standards support inclusive, adaptable, and sustainable living environments. The North Wright Sustainable Precinct, a new development by the Suburban Land Agency, demonstrates this approach by implementing Liveable Housing Australia (LHA) Silver standards to these homes.

What is Liveable Home Design?

Liveable home design focuses on creating homes that are more accessible and safer for people of all ages and abilities. Key features include step-free entrances, wider doorways, and reinforced walls to support future modifications like grab rails. These elements ensure that homes can accommodate the changing needs of their occupants, promoting independence and quality of life.

North Wright: A model of sustainability and accessibility

Located in the picturesque Molonglo Valley, North Wright is set to become a benchmark for sustainable and liveable housing. The development includes 43 architecturally designed terrace-style houses, each built with a compact floorplan and a focus on sustainability. These homes, delivered over two stages, are designed to minimise carbon footprint, featuring renewable energy sources and climate-resilient landscaping.

LHA Silver Certification

All homes in North Wright Sustainable Precinct, stage one, meet the LHA Silver level, which includes seven core design elements critical for future flexibility and adaptability. These elements ensure that homes are not only more accessible but also prepared for any future modifications, reducing the need for costly renovations.

A Community-oriented approach

North Wright Sustainable Precinct is more than just a collection of homes; it’s a community designed with wellbeing in mind. The development includes green spaces, nature play areas, and communal facilities that encourage social interaction and outdoor activities. This thoughtful design fosters a sense of community and connection among residents.

North Wright Sustainable Precinct stands as a practical example of how liveable home design can be integrated into modern housing developments. By meeting the LHA Silver standards and prioritising sustainability, each home offers a glimpse into this lifestyle living by being intentionally compact and purposefully built.
