Keen to get out and about for Halloween on 31 October? A keen resident in Throsby has kindly produced a poster, seeking support and involvement in Trick or Treating.

For those neighbours wishing to participate, we encourage you to decorate the front of your house so the kids know which hoses will be welcoming them. Encourage your kids, and others, to get out and Trick or Treat from 5 – 7pm on Thursday 31 October. You don’t need kids, or need to live in a particular area of Throsby – everyone can enjoy the evening!

Throsby Mingle Twilight Tour of Mulligans Flat

Thursday 4 October 2018
6:00pm-8:00pm

A night tour at Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary is a unique experience to step back in time and experience the Australian bush as it was 100 years ago. At night things really come to life in the Sanctuary. Nocturnal animals awaken hungry and looking for food.

Staff from Mulligans Flat will take you deep into the Sanctuary, inside the predator-proof fence, where native animals are thriving in the absence of foxes and feral cats.

On the tour you might be lucky enough to witness the Eastern Bettong foraging on native truffles in the wild (this species has been extinct from the Australian mainland for almost 100 years). Or see a tiny sugar glider eating nectar from the top of a flowering eucalyptus tree. You can observe various kangaroo and wallaby species feeding in their natural environment. Possums are often spotted slowly walking along the ground from tree to tree, as they have adapted to their predator free environment.

The night is full of strange sounds as different species call to one another. You may hear the distant cry of the Bush Stone-curlew as these birds awaken to in search for insects in the grassy woodland.

The frog song around the water bodies within the Sanctuary can, at times, be deafening.

There are also an increasing number of owls and other nocturnal bird species in the Sanctuary that can sometimes be seen and heard. While, micro-bats can often be seen darting in and out of the torch beam attracted by insects.

Quick Facts

  • there are no toilets at the meeting point
  • the walk will take from 2 to 2.5 hours
