If you’re looking to buy land and build a home in the next 6-12 months, you might be interested in some recent announcements from the ACT Government and Federal Government.

The ACT Government will offer stamp duty concessions for owner-occupiers on contracts exchanged between 4 June 2020 and 30 June 2021.

As part of Canberra’s Recovery Plan to support local jobs, the ACT will significantly reduce the stamp duty for owner-occupiers. This initiative will encourage growth in the residential property construction sector to create and support jobs.

In addition, the Federal Government has announced a $25,000 HomeBuilder Grant for eligible owner-occupiers (including first home buyers) to build a new home or substantially renovate an existing home. HomeBuilder is a time-limited, tax-free grant to help the residential construction market to get through the COVID-19 pandemic.
