Meet local artist Jenni Kemarre Martiniello (OAM) with her stunning artworks showcased in our promotional campaign for the Kingston Quarter release. Celebrating the rich cultural stories and creative storytelling that shapes Canberra, her piece captures the land, water and nature that shape this special place.
As a contemporary urban Aboriginal (Arrernte) glass artist, she is best known for creating intricate glass vessels inspired by woven forms traditionally made by Aboriginal people.
“I have been intimately connected to the Kingston Arts Precinct Project for quite some time and in several ways. Firstly as a studio tenant at Canberra Glassworks where I have been part of the Glassworks family since 2008.”
Jenni has dedicated her career to sharing Aboriginal art and culture through education and community. She taught at the University of Canberra and the Yurauna Centre at CIT. She founded Kemarre Arts, the ACT's first independent Aboriginal-run social enterprise and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2022 Queen's Birthday Honours.
Her work is held in major collections including the National Gallery of Australia, National Museum of Australia, Canberra Museum and Gallery, Australian Parliament House and the British Museum.
