The Suburban Land Agency (SLA) is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from Australia’s growing energy providers to create an innovative community-scale battery storage system proposed for the growing Jacka  community.
The EOI is the first of a two-stage Tender process with applications open until 2pm (Local ACT time), Tuesday 17 January 2023. Following evaluations of applications received for the EOI stage, respondents may be shortlisted and asked to apply for the second stage of the tender in 2023.
The innovative community-scale battery storage system will contribute to the ACT’s commitment to net zero emissions by 2045 with a vision to cut emissions by 50% to 60% (from 1990 levels) by 2025.
SLA will deliver the growing Jacka community and is committed to creating great places where communities thrive. Jacka will be one of Canberra’s newest all-electric suburbs. All residents and multi-unit building owners will be encouraged to have rooftop solar to generate their own renewable energy. A community-scale battery storage system would allow future Jacka residents to store excess renewable energy locally, so it can be accessed at times of higher energy demand.
Up to 400 dwellings are planned for release in Jacka during 2022-23 in line with the ACT Government’s Indicative Land Release Program.
