Mingle - Upcoming events

Our local communities are at the heart of what we do as the Suburban Land Agency Mingle team. During COVID-19, your health and safety is our priority. All Mingle events and activities will have measures in place to look after our community. The Mingle team is keeping a close eye on COVID-19 restrictions, and if circumstances change we may alter or postpone events at short notice. We will keep you informed. All Mingle events will adhere to physical distancing practices, encourage good hand hygiene and remind you to stay home if you are unwell.

Molonglo Valley summer safety session


Sunday 13 September 2020
11.00am – 1.30pm
Stromlo Cottage, Noffs Crescent Coombs

Woden Community Service, in collaboration with ACT Rural Fire Service, ACT State Emergency Service and Mingle, invite residents of Molonglo to a fun, family-friendly event to learn about bushfire safety, storm preparedness and several other interactive safety topics. This is the second year this informative event has run in the Molonglo Valley.

Summer safety session will include:

  • house fire safety (heaters, dryers, unattended cooking)
  • property preparedness talk - basic preparedness such gutters clearing, keeping lawns short, moving flammable items away from the house and trimming back overhanging branches
  • storm preparedness & safety
  • burn table to demonstrate how fire behaviour changes on different slope and terrain, how weather and wind affect fire, how different fuel loads affect fire and how prepared homes may withstand the effects of fire.
  • bushfire survival plan stall hosted by the ACT Rural Fire Service to help the community complete their bushfire survival plan including evacuation kit tips and information about property defence in an emergency situation
  • bush & grass fire safety
  • fun and interactive games for children, including the flame game!
  • delicious BBQ (via gold coin donation)
  • local community groups  meet and greet
  • interactive and educational workshops by ACT Snake Removals with their non-venomous pythons and lizards.

Stromlo Cottage open garden

Residents of Wright and Coombs are invited to come along and enjoy the gorgeous Floriade community gardens planted by the local Young at Heart friendship group. This event will give residents a chance to walk around the garden and see the tulips as they start to bloom.

This event will include:

  • mosaic art workshop
  • children’s spring colouring table
  • live music
  • coffee van
  • ACT NoWaste stall
  • indoor plant display
  • food by Ajijo and more

Spring at night

Residents of Wright and Coombs are invited to come along and view the gorgeous Floriade bulbs and Stromlo Cottage in lights! This event will give residents a chance to enjoy a relaxing spring evening with their community.

Spring at night will feature:

  • beautiful light display of the garden and Cottage
  • live music
  • coffee van as well as food and drink vendors
  • roving entertainment
  • neon paint activity

You are invited to bring along your picnic blanket to sit and enjoy the spring ambiance. Tickets are limited so make sure you get in early to register against a session here.

Open garden - School holidays

Bring the whole family along to the cottage for some school holiday fun. The school holiday open garden will have a number of activities to join.

Register to take part in:

  • gnome painting activity
  • gardening activity with Floriade head gardener Andrew Forester
  • ACT NoWaste stall
  • unique story telling with Mingle’s very own Elissa!


A pop up coffee van will have hot drinks for purchase and morning tea will also be available. Please note that there are a limited number of gnomes, so there will only be one per family. This is a ticketed event - please register here.

Spring in your suburb garden competition


September - October 2020

As the weather warms up it is a great chance to get back into your garden. 
Over the next few weeks, you will be seeing a range of details about your local garden competition.

Categories will include:

  • best streetscape - join your neighbours and enter six or more houses with beautiful front yards and verges
  • best front yard/verge garden - super proud of your place? Give it a shout out
  • best front yard/verge garden under 12 months - Only just started? Show us how you are progressing
  • best balcony/terrace/courtyard garden - have a small garden? You can still enter
  • communal garden - working on a garden with your neighbours? Let us know about it.

Young at Heart - Friendship Group

Young at Heart

Every Wednesday, 10am - 12pm

Every Wednesday morning, residents of Wright and Coombs meet for a chat and a coffee or tea. Young at Heart are a friendly bunch of mature age residents who are creating new friendships in their new community. The group would love to see more residents join. There is no commitment to be there every week, no joining fee, just come along and meet your neighbours. If you are interested in coming along, Young at Heart will see you at the cottage Wednesday morning.
