Community Engagement

Southquay Greenway is a mixed-use development along the eastern and western shores of the southern end of Lake Tuggeranong. There are 13 sites in total which will consist of approx 1,000 dwellings and more than 3,000 square metres of commercial space.

The development will enliven the foreshore and strengthen the Town Centre through a mixture of residential and commercial development, a central park with children’s playground and a lakefront boulevard.

The Southquay development west of Lake Tuggeranong is progressing well, with many of the developments under construction and one complete.

The next stage of the development, between Lake Tuggeranong and Drakeford Drive, is scheduled for sale in mid 2017, consistent with the ACT Government’s Indicative Land Release Program.  A development application (DA) for the development of the eastern was publicly notified on 27 April 2017.

The project will consist of four to five blocks of land, with the development of the fifth block (the most southern and adjacent to Isabella Weir) subject to an environmental referral to the Commonwealth Government.

In August 2015, Territory Plan Variation DV318 rezoned the land from PRZ1 (Urban Open Space) to RZ4 (Residential Zone 4). The RZ 4 zoning allows the construction of three to four-storey buildings. Development on the eastern side will allow 9.5 metres or 13 metres (which equates to three-storey structures permitted at the lakefront and four-storey structures permitted on the upper section, facing Drakeford Drive).

The development will include:

  • a signalised intersection on Drakeford Drive to provide safe and convenient left and right turns for access in and out of the development
  • a shared path on the lakefront completing the path network around Lake Tuggeranong, and
  • landscaped  areas around the development to complement the area.

Civil construction, including construction of the signalised intersection on Drakeford Drive, installation of services and the new road, will begin after the DA is approved. Please note this DA closed 17 May 2017.

The existing shared paths running through the site and along the eastern verge of Anketell Street will be closed during construction due to public safety. Temporary shared path routes are in place to accommodate pedestrian and cycling traffic. Once the estate works are complete, access to the lake with enhanced landscaping and shared paths for cyclists and pedestrians will be restored.

The ACT Government held drop-in information sessions on 25 January and 4 February 2017 about Southquay East at the Tuggeranong Hyperdome, and on 3 March 2017 at the Lanyon Marketplace.
