Jacka

Welcome to Jacka, the Suburban Land Agency’s  growing community in Gungahlin’s north.

This vibrant, sustainable and diverse community will be a place to enjoy life with a natural and spacious outlook, only 5km to the Gungahlin Town Centre, 20km to Belconnen and 25km to Canberra’s CBD.

Around 70% of this new neighbourhood will be dedicated to open space, playgrounds, playing fields and wetlands, giving neighbours options to walk, ride or play and to build exciting memories for years to come.

As the Suburban Land Agency's first all-electric community, Jacka will embrace the vision of creating a climate resilient and sustainable community through energy initiatives which support the long-term growth of our city. Diverse home choices will also be promoted to provide Canberrans with more possibilities to make a home their own.

A well-designed cycle and footpath network will support a healthy and safe community, leading to thriving flora, fauna and wetlands throughout this spacious suburb, and beyond. With great options to connect by foot, bike or car, it will be easier to discover nature at your doorstep, or in nearby nature reserves.

A future local commercial centre is planned and will provide a place where people can easily connect to convenient and local experiences. This growing community is also a short commute to nearby schools, shops and other retail in Bonner, Amaroo, the Gungahlin Town Centre and will be close to proposed future shops in Moncrieff and Taylor.

The heritage listed Horse Park Homestead will also be honoured, its historic past recognised and embraced within this growing community.

We are excited to begin offering the first blocks of land for release in 2022-23 as part of the ACT Government’s Indicative Land Release Program. Sign up to the Jacka database to be the first to find out about updates in this community.

Sustainability in Jacka

The growing suburb of Jacka will be one of the Suburban Land Agency’s (SLA) newest all-electric suburbs demonstrating a range of innovative and sustainable initiatives, with all residents encouraged to install rooftop solar to generate renewable energy.

A community-scale battery storage system is proposed for this suburb and Expressions of Interest are now open for the first of a two-stage Tender process.

Expressions of Interest for the first stage of the tender process is open until 2pm (Local ACT time), Tuesday 17 January 2023. This will investigate the potential to trial and demonstrate the value of one of the first community-scale battery storage systems on the east coast of Australia.

Community-scale batteries are unique in size and location in the network enabling the potential to benefit multiple stakeholders including the local community, the battery operator, and the network.
