The Canberra Brickworks Precinct
The Canberra Brickworks site was released through a two-stage sales process in 2016, with the preferred tenderer selected in 2017. Find out more
Development of the site is a significant urban renewal project that will revitalise a historic heritage area in the suburb of Yarralumla, restoring and activating the near-forgotten Brickworks industrial site and immediate surrounding areas. The development spans approximately 16 hectares and comprises Blocks 1, 7 and 20 Section 102 Yarralumla.
The smaller project area (16 hectares) responds to community concerns about the scale of the previous development proposal. The project will deliver the adaptation and activation of the Brickworks site and include Quarry Park and Railway Remnants Park.
Development will be based on what is permissible under the existing Territory Plan Zoning, CZ6 (PDF 24KB) and RZ1 (PDF 24KB), criteria and the Yarralumla Precinct Map and Code (PDF 685KB). These allow residential development to a maximum of three storeys and maximum two storey limit for other permissible uses.
Depending on the type of development and dwelling mix, there is potential for the site to yield between 175 and 380 dwellings.
