Deakin Charity House

Deakin Charity House

The Deakin Charity House was a partnership arrangement between the Territory, the Master Builders Association (MBA) of the ACT and Renaissance Homes.

The auction of the two charity houses, which were built at discounted rates by MBA members on blocks of land donated by the ACT Government was held on Saturday 5 November 2016 and raised more than $2 million for Canberra charities.

Three charities were initially identified to receive funds. These included; Boundless Playground Canberra, Hands Across Canberra and Hartley Life Care.

However, due to a higher than expected auction result, Boundless Playground requested some of its share be distributed to other charities. As a result, Hands Across Canberra and Hartley Lifecare received an increased share while the Salvation Army, Uniting Care, Early Morning Centre, St Vincent de Paul, Everyman and Ozhelp were each chosen to share the remaining funds.

The Franklin Charity House project was another collaboration between the Territory and the MBA. The project aimed to provide a high amenity, cost competitive dwelling that was released for sale by auction and sold on 2 March 2013. The funds raised were distributed to to charities serving ACT homelessness.
